Peggy Kirk Kline, a former record store owner and community volunteer, died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) at a retirement center in San Francisco. She was 81 and had lived in Clayton for many years.
Mrs. Kline and her late husband, Robert J. Kline, parents of actor Kevin Kline, owned the Record Bar music store from 1942 until it was closed in 1980.
The store, which specialized in the latest classical and operatic releases, was opened on Wydown Boulevard, subsequently moving to two other locations in Clayton.
She and her husband were longtime supporters of the arts in St. Louis. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Kline was active with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and formerly served as an officer of the National Society of Arts and Letters. She had lived in California since 1998.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Lupton Chapel, 7233 Delmar Boulevard, University City. Burial will be private.
Among the survivors are a daughter, Kate May of Berkeley, Calif.; three sons, Kevin of New York, Christopher Kline of St. Louis and Alex Kline of San Francisco; and nine grandchildren.
