[Kevin Kline Online]
PREMIERE MAGAZINE, NOVEMBER 1997

Kevin Kline fans who knew of it at the time were sure to pick up a copy of the November 1997 issue of PREMIERE magazine (featuring some guy named Brad Pitt on the cover). There was a feature story on the stars of The Ice Storm. Included are two pics of Kevin - the smaller one is part of a group shot with the adult cast and director Ang Lee. There's another b&w photo of Kevin alone in the article. The name of the article is "Cheat Drink Man Woman" There are solo pics of all four adult cast members (KK, Sigourney Weaver, Jamey Sheridan and Joan Allen); photography is by Nigel Parry, and the piece is written by David Handelman. Premiere costs $3.50 in the U.S. and $4.50 in Canada.

What we learn from the KK part of the article (this is all paraphrased, except for *brief* direct KK quotes because I've been informed by PREMIERE that I can't quote any of the article at all.):

Kevin's parents have been married 55 years, and he says that he doesn't think he knew anyone from a broken home (when he was growing up in St. Louis).
On the "birds and bees" scene in The Ice Storm Kline says that the character, Ben Hood, is "passing on what he thinks is the right information..." Kevin goes on to say that he had a "hysterical" talk with his own dad about sex and that his father was so uptight that "I came away with no idea."
The article tells how Kevin studied conducting and composing for two years at Indiana University before he became interested in acting and talks about the troupe he started that put on improv and political shows. Kevin says that after one show people burned draft cards.
By the year in which The Ice Storm takes place, Kevin was a graduate of Juilliard and a member of John Houseman's Acting Company and was debuting on Broadway.
Kevin talks about the 'Me Generation' tone of the 70s and how the characters in The Ice Storm reflect that. "We can sit back and say, 'Oh, that's not me, we're so much more enlightened.' But I think we're still living in the'70s, if not the fallout from the 70s."
